Appeal - RKM, Kochi

Blessed Self,

Ramakrishna Math, the cultural nerve center of India, definitely, has played and is playing a major role in cementing the 'Vedic' legacy and 'Puranik' piety of Indian subcontinent among the people of India and abroad, especially among the youth. The centers all over India and abroad are doing a commendable creditable job in this line.

The Kochi center is in the limits of Ernakulam-Kochi twin city. The center in Kochi is in a toddler state; it has been taken over by the Belur Math in the year 1999. Ernakulam had the honour of receiving Swami Vivekananda as a guest during his wandering days.

This centre, to keep with the pace of time, is to be equipped with all high-tech, advanced modern technology, including the information technology. It is proposed to conduct many programmes for the working youth and support them physically, mentally, intellectually and spiritually.

Glimpses to our activities
  • The Math is serving the poor people in and around of Vyttila freely through Allopathic, Homeopathy and Ayurvedic Dispensary.
  • Helping the poor and meritorious with study materials etc,.
  • Weekly Spiritual retreat and the Balaka Sangha are conducted for the devotees and for the children respectively on every Sunday.
  • Our Swamis and well-known scholars conduct scriptural classes for the public on Sundays.
  • Music classes are conducted for the students twice in week.
  • To spread the Ramakrishna- Vivekananda Vedanta Literature among the public the Math has Book-sales section also.

The centre pinpoints the following features:

  • A Temple and prayer hall.
  • A Free-coaching Centre.
  • Helping poor and meritorious students to pursue their study and enable them to stand on their own feet.
  • Outdoor medical aid to public with different branches of medicine.
  • Supporting awareness programme on hygiene for the people dwelling in the poor localities.
  • A central Library and Reading Room equipped with computers with internet facilities. Special attention to Children's Library.
  • A Book Stall to spread the teachings of Sanatana Dharma envisaged by Sri Ramakrishna , Holy Mother and Swami Vivekananda.
  • V I S T A -Vivekananda Institute of Sanskrit and Traditional Arts.
  • Balaka Sangha for School going children to imbibe the values of life in young age itself.
  • A youth forum for personality development and intellectual sophistication among the youth to fulfill the dream of Swamiji.
  • Classes & Discourses for General public.

Our Immediate need
  • A Multi-purpose Auditorium for conducting different activities.
  • Dispensary, Monks' Quarters, Kitchen/dining hall, Guesthouse etc.
At present we are having only a 60-year-old Math building, which includes - Shrine cum Prayer hall, two residential rooms, one general room, which is being used now as office, and visitors' room and a dining room. Another building which is also very old and being used as dispensary and book stall.

Without the overwhelming support of the devotees and public the institution will not be able to achieve its objects and fulfill its social obligation. Hence the wholehearted support from the devotees and public, business houses, philanthropic trusts and institutions, is requested to achieve this humble and sublime task.

Donations, big or small, will be gratefully acknowledged. Marble plaques containing the names of the prominent donors will be affixed in the respective buildings.

Donations are exempted from Income Tax under 80 G. Donations may kindly be drawn in favour of "Ramakrishna Math, Vyttila" and be sent to Ramakrishna Math, Vyttila P.O., Kochi - 682 019, Ernakulam Dist., Kerala.

Yours in the service of the Lord

National seminar on swami vivekananda held

NATIONAL SEMINAR ON SWAMI VIVEKANANDA HELD

Mysore, July 4 (KCU)- The Concept of an ideal India visualised by Swami Vivekananda has been shattered with none respecting the thoughts of that great Saint, regretted noted critic Prof. G. Mallepuram Venkatesh.

Speaking at the National Seminar on Swami Vivekanandara Chintanegalu mathu Vivida Jnanashakhegalu organised by Swami vivekananda Chair of the Philosophy Department, Manasagangotri at its EMMRC auditorium here yesterday, Venkatesh said that today's situation in the country is alarming with fragmentation at every level. Humanity can survive only if people tread with wisdom and religious harmony as conceptualised by Swami Vivekananda. Behind the various contributions from India to other countries, there lies the co-ordinated effort of the Swami, who always believed in harmony and joint effort, he said.

Speaking after Inaugurating the seminar, Mysore University Vice-Chancellor Prof. J. Shashidharaprasad said that after World Trade Organisation (WTO) came into existence, foreign participation in trade in India has increased. There are no model personalities to react to such changes and looking back, there is none to equal Swami Vivekananda, he opined.

"About half the total number of employees in NASA are Indians. However, we bow with inferiority complex in front of a western. Comprehensive personality development is possible only if people come out of such complex", he said.

President of Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama, Swamy Nithyasthanandaji presided. Dr. H.N. Muralidhar, Visiting Professor rendered keynote address.

Dr. S. Venkatesh, Dr. H.L. Chandrashekar and Dr. V.N. Sheshagiri Rao spoke.

Participating in the seminar Dr. A.V. Narasimhamurthy said that Swami Vivekananda held the Indian civilisation and culture in high esteem, recalled that he ridiculed aping other culture saying, a donkey is a donkey even if it is wrapped in a lion's skin.

Speaking with a science background, G.T. Narayana Rao said that the thoughts of Swami Vivekananda and Scientist Einstein had many points in common, which is evident from the former's several works. That was the opinion of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan too, he said.
